§        Duty Weapons used by the Napa Police

§        Duty Gear such as batons, holsters, duty belts

§        Photographs/ Scrapbooks containing photos related to the Napa Police Department

§        Newspapers detailing items of historic interest related to the Napa Police Department

o       Note: The NPHS does not provide appraisals of the monetary value of materials proposed for donation or for any other reason because the IRS regards museums, libraries, and historical societies as interested parties. Monetary appraisals prepared for donors by such institutions are subject to question and disqualification. However, professional appraisers do perform this service for a fee. To find a licensed appraiser in your area, contact the American Society of Appraisers http://www.appraisers.org), the International Society of Appraisers (http://www.isa-appraisers.org), or the Appraisers Association of America (http://www.appraisersassoc.org) for a referral. You can also check the phone book under heading such as “Appraisers”, “Book Dealers- Used and Rare”, and “Antiques-Dealers”.

o       Tax Deductions: The NPHS is recognized as a qualified charitable organization and, as such, the fair market value of your donated materials is generally tax deductible. To take advantage of your deduction, you must file a tax form 1040 and, depending on the value of your donation, a tax form 8283. TO ensure that you receive the maximum tax benefit, it is recommended that you consult with your accountant, attorney, and/or the IRS. You may also consult IRS publication no.526 “Charitable Contributions” (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p526.pdf) and publication no.561 “Determining the value of Donated Property” (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p561.pdf).
